BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Parents attending “curriculum night” this week at schools throughout Palm Beach County learned a stunning fact: The School District’s highly 
publicized “I-Ready” program — for which it is paying $5.6 Million — is incompatible with iPads, Android Tablets, and many browsers on traditional computers.
I-Ready is an online system used to reinforce and test students in Math and English.
Parents contacting BocaNewsNow.com are expressing outrage that they may have to purchase computers for their children to use at home, as teachers touted the company line this week that home use of I-Ready is mandatory.
While Curriculum Associates — the company responsible for I-Ready — states on its website that “tablet support is coming soon,” it isn’t here yet. And the website states that its forthcoming app will only be available for newer iPads — nothing earlier than the “iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro.”
No immediate word from the Palm Beach County School District on how it approved nearly $6 Million for a system that isn’t compatible with tablets, or what assistance is being given to families throughout Palm Beach County to secure new computers that are compatible with I-Ready.
While many families, of course, have computers at home, the school district has been pushing the use of tablets. Last year’s highly publicized systems of IXL Math and “Raz Kids” were both tablet based or, at the very least, equally compatible.
The push for a desktop only learning system is perceived as backwards for a district trying to move forward.
