Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran and the seven members of the Board of Education are probably the most powerful political appointees in the state. They have been granted unprecedented authority over our district schools ranging from passing rules that have the same weight as laws, closing schools, fining superintendents and removing duly elected school board members. The monthly meetings of the Board of Education are your chance to be heard through public testimony.
Elections have serious consequences which are full on display at these meetings. Please review next week’s agenda. Plan to attend if you’re in Tallahassee. Florida’s children need us to speak for them.
