Keep using your voices! You’ve sent at least 40K letters to Gov. Scott and his education advisers! Even so, Commissioner Stewart stubbornly clings to the state’s failed “education reform” ideology. We all know that politics is behind her FSA loyalty.
Let’s grow the 40K+ letters you’ve sent and keep urging Gov. Scott to issue an Executive Order to suspend the use of the high stakes FSA to grade anyone. As Pasco Superintendent Kurt Browning noted, Scott has the sole authority to do this.
Plan to attend the Florida Board of Education meeting next week in Orlando. Let these appointees of Gov. Scott know that public education advocates have lost all faith in the Florida A-F school accountability system. We ardently oppose the use of high stakes to test and punish our children and teachers and privatize public education. Our children are depending on us to speak as one voice on this issue.
Public Education Advocates should attend, if possible:
Florida Board of Education meeting October 28, 2015
Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport, in ballrooms D and E
9300 Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32827 | phone: (407) 825-1234
A diverse list of allied groups representing millions of Florida citizens stand together in opposition to using the deeply flawed 2015 Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) to grade schools and evaluate teachers. These groups are the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, the Central Florida School Public Boards Coalition, the League of Women Voters of Florida, the Florida School Boards Association, the Florida PTA and the recent call to action made by Miami-Dade County Council PTA, Parents Across Florida, NAACP/Florida, Fund Education Now and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)/Florida
Please continue to take action. Ask Gov. Scott to issue an Executive Order to suspend using Florida Standards Assessment for any purpose and pause the state’s entire accountability system until a thorough, transparent examination of the entire system, specifically the high stakes attached to testing, can be completed and proven to be fair to all students and healthy for public education.
