If you want to weigh in on how Florida should score its new standardized tests, you can show up at any of three public hearings or join an online “webinar” next week. All the meetings — hosted by the Florida Department of Education — will focus on how to score the new Florida Standards Assessments, or the FSA.
As we reported Tuesday, two groups (one of teachers and one of education and community leaders) are making recommendations on scoring the FSA exams, suggesting how well students need to do to pass the new language arts and math tests.
Education Commissioner Pam Stewart will use the panels’ recommendations — and input from the public hearings — to make her scoring proposal to the State Board of Education, which has final say.
The FSA includes language arts and math exams for students in third grade through high school. Florida students took some 3.2 million FSA exams in March, April and May.
The public meetings:
– Sept. 15, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Dillard High School, Fort Lauderdale
– Sept. 16, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Jones High School, Orlando
– Sept. 17, 2 to 4 p.m., Turlington Building (education department headquarters), Tallahassee
